WordCamp Phoenix Wrapup

Now that we’ve had time to decompress from our trip to Phoenix, here’s a quick wrap up of the event.

We arrived in Phoenix Thursday afternoon to hang out with Luke & Matt from Mobiah and attend the design/dev speed meet. The event was smaller than I had expected but a very good idea. Hoping more WordCamps setup something similar.

Friday took Chris to the Free Intro to BuddyPress class and myself to Cambelback Mountain for some hiking. Chris had nothing but great things to say about the class and its instructor Boone Gorges. Keep an eye on BuddyPress, it’s going places. Camelback mountain was an adventure, wish I had more time to make it all the way to the top. Friday night we met Jon & Jeff from Omnilogic at the design reception and proceeded to become good friends with these awesome Canadians.

Main event on Saturday was great, the Mariachi band was a fantastic way to start the day. The venue was huge and setup very well. Learned quite a bit about A/B testing with ShrimpTest and picked up several security tips from Mark Jaquith. Working the Genius Bar was fun, answered a couple of fairly simple questions and got to explain multisite domain mapping to someone. The party on Saturday night was incredible! Hanging out with all the other WP nerds & enjoying good (FREE!) beer all evening.

I think my favorite part of these events is meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends. Hat tip to Aaron Campbell, Austin Passy, Cody Landefeld, Don Burnside, Eric DuRose, Jeff Beck, Jeff Zinn, Jon Friesen, Jonathan Davis, Luke Pilon & Matt Pilon. See all of you in Orange County, San DiegoSan Francisco?
