Custom post types in WordPress 3.0 are very exciting. They open up many new avenues for development that had to be hacked into WordPress previously. DJhere was running on a very dated Flash site that was a maintanence nightmare. BinaryM came in and built several new features on top of WordPress’s custom post types. Here are a couple of examples:
A reverse chronological photo gallery that is easily managed by anyone on their staff. Previously DJhere’s flash gallery was crashing under the load of their images. The new system automagically resizes & stamps all images with their logo. Added some jQuery fun that allows users to link to or share any image in the gallery despite using a lightbox.
Multiple taxonomies and custom fields setup this area of their site. Added a little flash based audio player and this section works flawlessly.
The largest part of their site, upcoming events. This area uses future based posts and feeds many areas of their site. With a couple of custom fields and some specific image uploads, we have the upcoming events calendars, their upcoming events carousel, featured events banners and past events gallery.
